It's Ok To Be A Proud Canadian
As we come to the final days of the Olympic Games, I would like this week's blog to be about our Olympians and how proud they should be on how they represented Canada.
There were many exciting moments for our Canadian Team. From both our Men's Brad Jacobs and Women's Jennifer Jones Curling teams winning gold to our Canadian Women's Hockey Team with an amazing comeback to take the gold and of course, the anticipation of the Men's game at 4:00am on Sunday. We have seen sisters take over the slopes to win gold & silver to our Team Canada skating team taking home silver.
History being made in so many venues from our Women's Bobsled taking gold again to the introduction of new sports such as Freestyle Half pipe that were hugely successful and exciting to watch. The Snowboard Cross as also a newer sport in the Olympics saw successful results and exciting races.
We have seen true Canada moments where athletes have given up their spot for their teammate to race to the Canadian coach assisting another team's cross country skier in his time of need.
We have seen coverage that has gone from Facebook to Twitter to live stream on our laptops to our tablets and even our cell phones. With so many athletes shining in this Olympics, the committee is having a tough time trying to figure out who will carry our flag in the closing ceremonies so they have put it out there that viewers can vote for who they feel should represent our country with that honor. Click on this voting link to add your voice.
We are at the top of our game in the medals standings and I think every Canada is proud of what our athletes have accomplished. If you are an early riser, the Men's Hockey team will fight for gold early Sunday morning so tune in for the excitement. So I hope you get a chance to take in the closing ceremonies and celebrate with our athletes a moment that will be forever remembered in their hearts. Go Canada Go!

Work In a Workout Room At Home
With Valentines Day just finishing and Easter just around the corner, chocolate is in the air and on every shelf in the stores. This can put a bit of a dent on the New Year's Resolution to get fit & with statistics also not behind us by this time of the year, we can use all the help and ideas that are out there to help keep us on track.
A solution can be a home gym. Home gyms aren't just for the rich and famous anymore. All you need is a little space to be able to work out in the comfort of your own home. Do you have a room that isn't being used to its full potential? Maybe it's a spacious garage that you rarely park the car in. Maybe it's a home office that's seen better days or a spare bedroom that's become a storage space. With a little elbow grease, you can turn one of those spaces into an exercise room that accommodates your love of Pilates, weights, running or whatever moves you.
Here are a few ideas that I came across that will show you how designing a home gym is done so you can stop having to climb over the exercise bike in your bedroom.
Don't let a finished attic go to waste. These small spaces can be wonderful workout rooms. Your exercise equipment will stay out of the rest of your home and the privacy you'll get will be well worth it.
Tuck a small workout area right beneath that awkward space at the bottom of the stairs in the basement. Don't trick yourself into thinking you need an entire room to devote to exercising. Once you start rearranging, you'll be surprised at how your favorite equipment can fit into a tight space but still be accessible.
Walk-out lower level
For homes with the main rooms on the top floor, the ground level can become underutilized. Turn the lower space into a multifunctioning area that can help you get a workout in. Set aside a portion of the lower level for a home gym and turn the rest of the space into a play area for the kids so you can stay fit and keep an eye on them too.
A spare bedroom can easily become more of a storage room for extras than a functioning room. Clear out all the unnecessary clutter, take the items to a consignment shop or have a garage sale and use that extra cash to help you purchase new exercise equipment to fill the now open room.
If you're a health nut, your garage may go to better use as a gym. It is best to remodel in a way that if you need to sell later on, you have the option to easily transform the space back into a garage which is usually best for resale purposes.
A seldom-used sunroom could become the ultimate yoga retreat or for riding your stationary bike. A sunroom's large windows and sliding glass doors let in plenty of natural light and beautiful views.
Not sure what to do with that bonus room that came with your house? This could be your opportunity to turn it into a gym to help you stay on top of your fitness routine. Remember that you don't need much — start with a couple of mats, some free weights and a stationary bike. You'll have your own personal gym in no time.
If you can't find an ounce of extra space for a workout room, consider the end of a rarely used hallway. Just place your stationary bike in front of that closet you never use, roll out your yoga mat when needed and you can always hang a mirror or two for the finishing touch.
Statistics show that, at the end of January, some 64% of exercise resolutions are still hanging in there but unfortunately, six months later, that number drops to 44%. This might be your key to keeping those statistics on the highend of the scale. Just like the statistics in the real estate market, what we do influences the results. If you'd like more details on the statistics of our market, do not hesitate to give me a call or if you'd like to influence the market by selling or buying, I'd be happy to meet with you and see how we can work it into your future.
