Keeping Cool with Your Kids

Summer holidays! It can be an exciting time for students as they've waited "forever" for summer break to arrive. Sometimes the first couple of weeks can be hectic as there is so much you want to do so you try to pack in all in in the first couple weeks.

The weather can play havoc on your plans whether it rains or it is too hot. We've waited for the warm weather to arrive but you want to be careful not to get heat stroke from spending days upon days soaking it up. I researched a few different options that our community provides for fun when you are looking for a little relief from the heat:

Cariboo Memorial Recreation Centre

The Rec Centre is a great place to head to if you want to beat the heat. Check out their Summer Pool Schedule and take in a Toonie Swim or the Iceberg Fun Day or sign up your child for the Summer Day Camp. With a variety of themes throughout the summer, they are bound to have fun and a great experience.

Performances in the Park

Outdoor concerts in WIlliams Lake have returned for another season. Every Thursday evening you can head to Boitanio Park and enjoy a variety of talent each week. Click onto the Performances in the Park schedule to see the line up for the summer.

Cariboo Bowl

A great family activity is bowling. You can invite other families and turn it into a competition or have a summer birthday bash with friends. Check out their summer schedule and the Cosmic Bowl on Friday nights.

Scout Island Nature Centre

From children to adult programs, the Scout Island Nature Centre has a variety of options to offer a family in the summer. Take a dip in the lake or a ride in a voyageur canoe. See the variety of summer adventures they have on their website to see what might work for your family.

Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin

Looking for an educational experience? Look no further than our local museum. This true cowboy museum looks at our history and how life has changed in the Cariboo/Chilcotin. Head to their website for their summer hours.

Kiwanis Park

Need a great outdoor spot to cool off with the kids on a hot day? Kiwanis Park and its spray park offers tons of fun and feels great too. With a variety of play structures to choose from, you'll spend hours having fun in the park.

Paradise Cinema

Of course, what summer vacation wouldn't be complete without seeing a great flick or two. Our local movie theatre has a variety of great movies occuring throughout the summer for movie goers of all ages. Check out the movies that are here and what is heading our way. This might be a great opportunity to see a 3-D movie if you haven't tried it yet.

So I hope that gives you a few ideas how you can stay cool with the kids this summer. Those are just a few of the many reasons why families move to our area and call it home. And if you feel that now might be the right time for you to upsize or downsize, my Re/max office has air conditioning so come on in and see me and we can work on the next adventure for your family.
